FREE Heritage Training Day

Hello,

things are in a bit of a frenzy here at THI HQ with our Market Place consultation really taking off, building schemes working up to full grant applications, visits from the HLF, a hands-on stone carving day for pupils at The Prescot School, a new Historic Environment Intern starting working with us and Atherton Street public realm nearing completion.

We are delighted to let you know that we have another FREE heritage training day in the offing – I suppose the title of this post has already given that away! :-)

The Training day is titled:

Writing Specifications for Conservation Projects.

It will take place on Friday 19 August 2016 in Prescot (venue TBC).

The training will be delivered by Alan Gardner of Alan Gardner Associates. Alan is a Chartered Building Surveyor with Accreditation in Conservation and his background before qualifying is construction. A SPAB Lethaby Scholar, Alan has been the contract manager (often writing the specifications for) major heritage projects like:

  • The multi-million Heritage Lottery Fund-supported restoration and re-use of the Grade II* Listed All Souls Church in Bolton – an enormous redundant church that has been brought back to use
  • Another THIEdgar Wood and Middleton THI – repairing and restoring architecturally-ahead-of-their-time Victorian and Edwardian houses, churches and school
  • The recent repairs to the Headquarters of the SPAB in Spitalfields, London!

The contents of the training day are below. The nature of the training means it is primarily aimed at architects, building surveyors, conservation officer or anyone involved in the repair or restoration of old buildings, but it is free for anyone to attend, just make sure you have boked a place in advance, as places are limited.

To book your place, please e-mail Lyndsey: lyndsey-jane.kevan@knowsley.gov.uk

Hope to see you there!

Get involved

Help shape the heritage initiative by taking part in consultations, or celebrate Prescot's history at events taking place throughout the project. Schools and colleges can also get hands-on with the past through activities and workshops for groups.

Heritage skills training

Historic buildings need people with the right knowledge to look after them. The THI will give people in and entering the local construction industry the opportunity to gain new skills and experience.

The THI will also help people find out more about careers in heritage.
