Market Place Design Competition - Stage 1

just a very brief blog post to point you towards the images and details of the five designs for the public open space at Prescot Market Place.

There were 45 designs submitted anonymously and a panel of seven people (one of whom was your truly) narrowed it down to the final five. The five firms now have until 20 July to refine and add detail to their designs. These will then be exhibited in Prescot in the first week of August (watch this blog for details) before the panel meets to choose the winner after interviewing each competitor.

We were so pleased with the variety and high standard of designs submitted and narrowing it down to five was not without its difficulty. My thank you to everyone who took part.

Please do take a look at the designs. We will be asking for people to vote for their favourite during the exhibition at the beginning of August. They are listed here in no particular order:

Periscope Studio, London

OMI Architects, Manchester

Charles Tashima Architecture, London

Blackstaff Architects, Belfast

Mark Wray Architects, Bath

The design competition is being run on our behalf by RIBA Competitions who have done a fantastic job in ensuring it runs smoothly and fairly. Through RIBA we have appointed Euan MacDonald of Hawkins\Brown Architects as our Architectural Advisor and Panel Chair.

I am delighted that the Stage 1 results have had good press coverage this week both locally and in the architectural trade press. You can see the story on the Knowsley news website:
